1a. What Lesson did I learn from each of the 8 profile designers?

1. Chris Lee

What I learn from Chris Lee is that Branding or design is not tied to just a single logo or space but rather a full set/collection of them all together bringing the whole experiences of a brand or products. Also as designer one should also explore while loving what he/she do.

2. Theasues Chan

Beauty can be found anywhere, its just how you present it to people. To be able to design a good design, it comes mostly when you are feeling relax but also being able to challenge yourself.

3. Scene Shang

I learn that how a space is being design actually affects the various moods & emotion of the people in it. As a designer being curious, is to see the world around us and look at various things and to ask how to make something better.

4. JAWS

Makes things that you feel good about making in order to explore who you are is what I learn from JAWS. As a design practitioner, you don't really know yourself too well until you do many different things to find who you are.

5. James Jeans

One thing I learn from Jame Jeans that I know that its right is that by exposing yourself to many people from different cultural background, you can accelerate your learning. One also must challenge yourself, though it can be hard but it is how one grow.

6. Christina Faraj

What I learn by watching her video is an experiences of what her daily life is and I can say she is living the life she wanted by creating stories to make people happy. This mindset of doing things you love and making people happy is what make the world opt for you.

7. Sagmister & Waish

What I learn from the video, is that when working it's important to find what makes you find the work enjoyable as it’s the way to find happiness in what you do. One way to achieve it is by trying new things & exploring the various way to solve problems.

1b. Which designer is similar to your own design sensibility & aesthetic taste?

I would find that I resonance well with JAWS 's style and design sensibility as his style is cartoonish while dynamic and fun in ways that one can see that its expressive. The way he portray his art is simple in visual but through a series of his work, you can see a sort of branding in his work as his iconic figure is a skull shape head in various characters of his art pieces. To be able to turn your identity/ branding into an art is what I would describe his taste.

1c. What are their design philosophies?

Based on all the artist I saw in all the videos, I can see their philosophies includes just simply to explore, to do what you believe its right and to always seek to challenge yourself and to improve what you do while enjoying what you do.

1d. What are their design philosophies?

line cloud 1.png

I would describe my design philosophies as me seeing myself as an "explorer" wandering to many places and trying many different things but also designing experiences that would bring joy or wow others. I also want to challenge myself to see how far I can go in term of being an explorer designer as to learn what actually moves people in terms of emotion & experiences.

To be an explorer is to "document" & "path ways for others" journey to roads and lands that none have ever been. The hard part of being an explorer is that there are times where you have to walk the path alone as for most people, who you most likely might not be going in the same direction as you on developed road, let alone undiscovered paths. For me, being a designer is to explore the horizon and carve out new path even if no one knows who is the one that carve out the path, even if the only legacy I leave as an explorer is just the footprints I left behind.

2a. What is my vision of design?

My vision of design is that design should not just be something that look great with functionality but rather something that should be celebrated as an element that plays a key aspect in our daily life that helps us shape our lives tomorrow.

2b. Which is my favourite portfolio?

1. Lantern kindling Festival

The first of my favourite work is a project I had created name "Lantern Kindling Festival", it is a false festival that I created that was meant to take place during the mid autumn festival.

The idea was that traditional ways of celebrating old festival like mid autumn festival is becoming a blur that which a new way has to be develop to breath new life into celebrating an old festival. Lantern Kindling festival is an online festival that participate are to participate via the comfort of their home through an online streaming platform. I love this work of mine as it is a way for me to explore and play with old style in order to make the old new again.

2. World's Top Corktail chart

This is a project that I did for fun as I was thinking of how to make a chart to list, show & visualize the top current trending cocktail in the world while giving the viewers at least an abstract idea of how the cocktail would look like as well as listing the ingredients used to make such cocktails.

I did my best into making a vector illustration of the various cocktail base on Difford's guide to world top cocktail article which contains all the photographs of the cocktail.

2c. Describe what is Design insights to me in one word?

line cloud 2.png

The word is "Wisdom". As to be able to gather knowledge, to judge while learning to comtemplate & act base on the knowledge that we gather. With it, to be able to foreknowledge of something, to understand the available choices & consequences in order to act with the most advantages for the future or the present.

2d. What is the most useful thing you have heard from your design lecturers that inspired you?

line cloud 1.png

The most useful things that I have heard from my design lecturer is that "when it comes to research, there is no shortcut as one really needs to take the time to understand what is going on and to ask good questions". This is the most useful thing that inspire me as most of the time we all love to take shortcut, but there are things that you can't rush it no matter what as the long and tiring process is really needed to understand something.

2e. Any funny or fun fact about your cohort to share? Any word of advice for your BADP Course mates?

Well my cohorts are a wild bunch of misfits(including myself) haha, but that's where the fun begins. The only word of advice I got for my cohort is "careful not to have too much fun...".
