WEEK 3

What is a personal observation of the world around you that is related to your STEEP analysis for Week 2?

One example is automation, some of the service are being automated which is a key sign that instead of a person behind counter to serve customer on the frontline. We have robots doing it while having a person to do the managing or having robots to do the cooking in the behind the scenes while having people to serve the front. Such as Ella the robotic barista in Plaza Sing.

I believe we are in a transitional phrase which more and more basic services will be becoming automated while possibly being manage by AI to do all the work in the behind the scenes. What I am worry about is how fast is this transition going to be & what can I do to respond to it and prepare myself to be future-proof before the transition completes.

What is one pressing emerging issue that you feel as a designer, you can contribute to create change for the better?

One issue [or opportunity] that is pressing & emerging being "User experiences with AI retail services". If AI & automation is going to be on the rise pathing way for many businesses into using them.

Somebody have to design systems that would be able to allow AI & automation to sympathize with the customers to create an understanding human experiences with the customers. To make the experiences for people interacting with the AI more friendly & comfortable.

I feel that as a designer I can do a lot of in terms of designing systems & experiences to make AI more friendly for users. An "AI Xdesigner" I would like to call it.

Why does it matter we practice design?

It matters because we are curious, curious for answers and yearning for changes. To solve a problem or make a differences by understanding problems from a much wider perspectives and to develop solution to make life easier, efficient but most importantly to make life fun & interesting.

What is an emerging issue are you most concern about today?

An emerging issue that I foresaw and very concern about is the rising cost of living as with better health care, with better quality of life, people are living to a much older age. For people who are the elderly, most of them are out-living their saving while the younger generation are thinking & asking are basic necessity, housing affordable.

How are we going to sustain ourselves? How are we going to make enough to buy a house in the future? This are some of the question for the issue of "rising cost of living" that I have.

What would my personal design manifesto look like?

My personal design manifesto would look and portray myself as an explorer. As a designer, I see my place in the world as an explorer who wander to many places to observe, to understand the different culture & problems in a different setting.

As an explorer designer, my principle would be a saying "take pictures, leave nothing but footprints". I chose this saying because wherever I go, it will always be a new experiences for me to remember while the footprints are possible solution that I leave behind before moving on to the next destination in my travels, in my career as a designer.

What is my plan in the process to achieve the mindset of my design manifesto?

My plan is to start with my theme of being as explorer. I will ask myself how does an "explorer design" approach a problem, how does an explorer designer think to solve problems?

I believe that as an "Explorer designer" I would researches a problems to its core or explore various path to find and identify the problem's factors as with diverge before converging. As an explorer I believe while searching I may fell into a whole new unexplored region in my research to get a new perspectives.

Through countless exploration of research, that is my plan to be able to achieve my design manifesto, to think as an "explorer designer".
